So, how's it going?

Is your 2009 Bible reading plan in the dump? Of have you persevered? Just wondering. Also, I want to let you know that resetting your plans is fine; if Bible reading goals that once inspired you now haunt and taunt you, there is hope. You can start fresh. Anyone need any ideas on how? Let me know.

Also, if you want to e-mail me notes on your progress or insights you've gleaned through your study, please send them to jtorres@goodwillchurch.org and let me know if they are publishable or not. I'd like to include some in this blog to enourage all of of us.

It's great to be back. God bless you!

I have been very motivated in my reading plan since last summer thanks to "Encounter with God" by Scripture Union. I didn't realize how UNMOTIVATED I was before this came along. The aimless wanderings of my old plan were met by God even though I wasn't even aware enough to be asking for a change. This gift came about through a very simple conversation with a friend. Amazing!

My old plan was reading through the Two-Year Bible. However, without insight and commentary I didn't care where I was, because I didn't know why I was there. The Daily Bread was also part of my plan, but that only gives highlights of scripture from the view of the authors. Ever since Israel, I wanted something that would take me through the Bible at a reasonable pace along with some context and commentary. I appreciate that in Encounter with God, and finally feel like I am moving in a direction.

Maybe my plan will change in the future, but for now am satisfied.

Cheers! Helena

It has been hot and cold. I tried three different plans, 1) 3 year in order, 2) a different genre each day of the week, 3) getting ESV in a year from their web site. I have been praying to break this, but I was wondering if where I can get Leading on Empty. It seems that I burnt several years ago and have been lying since about my spiritual health.

Rosie:

It's "Leading on Empty" by Wayne Cordeiro. We'll have copies in our store. It may not directly apply, since it's primarily targeted to pastors, but check it out anyway.

Two nights ago I was at a bookstore looking for Leading on Empty, ordered it, because I snuck a peek at your copy on the podium. I found Max Lucado's devotional bible, with the soul purpose of pointing out God's Love and Jesus's purpose. It has a two year plan in it. This Lent season is a new beginning, from making my home God's home to re-newing my reading of God's love letter. Thanking God for you and all of our pastors and elders.
